On April 3, 2022, of Washington Twp.  Age 80.  Beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Helbling).  Devoted father of Jessica Howell (Esen Onur).  Loving grandfather of Sophia and Ella.  Dear son-in-law of Maxie Helbling.  Cherished brother-in-law of Jerry Helbling and Vern Helbling (Monica).  Proud uncle of Verna Helbling (Todd Hulce).

Benjamin T. Griffith was born to Benjamin Griffith and Virginia Rechtenbach in Camden, NJ on April 17, 1941.  He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden where he was a football player.  Ben served on the Camden Ambulance Squad and the Camden Zoning Board in his early years.

Ben was the President/CEO of South Jersey Federal Credit Union from 1974 to 2015. He was a past member and chairman of the New Jersey Credit Union League, and has also served as a director of the Credit Union National Association. In that capacity he served as a national director from New Jersey for nearly two decades. Ben was known in the community for being a strong supporter of local organizations and of the local communities that South Jersey Federal Credit Union served. Ben served on the Board of Trustees/Directors for Rowan College, Inspira Health, and the Gloucester County United Way. He volunteered and supported the Camden Children’s Garden, Parada San Juan Bautista, and the Boy Scouts of America, earning many awards and recognitions for his contributions to these community organizations over the years.

Ben and his beloved wife, Mary Jane, traveled widely in their retirement to Europe, Hawaii, and their favorite home away from home in Aruba.  They were married 37 wonderful years. Ben followed local and national politics, the performing arts, the Philadelphia Union Soccer team as well as his granddaughters’ budding soccer careers.  He had a knack for telling people the hard truths, a skill he passed on to his daughter.  He will be missed by all who loved and respected him.

Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturday 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp.  Funeral Service 2:00 pm.  Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.
